For preclinical programs building motor skills before working on typodonts — the preparation plate provides standardized restorative cavity outlines for developing consistent cutting technique.

The plate is designed for students to learn basic preparation techniques while developing their motor skills through repetition. The plate is made with different materials and color depths to simulate the natural cut of the tooth. The multiple layers allow student’s to train on the different depths they will encounter with a tooth during a preparation. The first layer is the enamel (surface), second layer is 1.5mm of dentin (blue) and the third layer is 2mm pulp (red).

The plate is designed to increase perception of the boundaries, angles and curves of a preparation preferably during one movement without stopping.
