Buyers guides for first time NDECC applicants
New to the dental licensing examination prep? As you prepare for your dental licensing exams, having the right equipment is crucial for developing the muscle memory and spatial awareness that examiners will be evaluating.
Setting up your at home practice Station
To replicate the exam conditions as closely as possible, we recommend the following core components that work together as an integrated system:
This typodont is the same model used for examination purposes and includes the Oral Cavity Cover and DARWIN Metal plates, providing the realistic tissue resistance and anatomical landmarks you'll encounter during your exam. The urethane gums specifically simulate the appropriate tissue response and can be replaced as needed.
This versatile mount attaches securely to any table surface, giving you the stable working platform essential for precise procedures. The adjustable positioning allows you to practice in ergonomically correct positions—a factor that significantly impacts performance during lengthy exam procedures.
The DARWIN Head creates authentic working angles and visibility challenges similar to those you'll face with real patients. The magnetic articulator system allows quick adjustments while maintaining stability during your practice sessions. Includes the adapter needed to connect to any of the mounts (unless you are practicing on an ADEC station at a centre) and it includes the hex key when purchased.
Consumables
This soft silicone cover, wraps around the typodont to simulate the confined area of the mouth and helps contain water and debris created during practice thanks to a drainage spout. The cover arrives with the spout sealed for those working without water and can be easily pierced to allow water to drained into any reservoir - drainage tube and reservoir of your choice must be supplied.
This component simulates the cheeks and opening of the mouth, adding the realistic soft tissue management challenges you'll need to master. Proper retraction and visibility techniques become second nature when you include this in your practice setup.
Urethane material gums used for the exam provide durability and excellent release of materials from the surface. For quick and easy replacement simply remove every other tooth from the typodont, remove the damaged gums, install the new one and reinstall the teeth removed earlier.
excessive force on the mandible can cause strain on the articulator springs for the typodont, requiring replacement of the springs to ensure proper alignment and occlusion.
Replacement Teeth for Comprehensive Practice
To master different procedures and ensure continuous practice opportunities, we offer:
These standard replacement teeth allow for repeated practice of various procedures, helping you perfect your techniques through repetition.
During a 180 day period the average customer will go through approximately the following teeth (using FDI numbering) - 10 - 20 pieces of 2 and 8, 25 - 40 of 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7, 50 - 75 of 6.
Specially designed for endodontic procedure practice, these transparent roots provide visual feedback on your canal preparation and obturation techniques.
During a 180 day period our customer data suggests purchasing 20 of each variation of each tooth and then replensihing your supply as needed based on the focus of your practice.
These teeth come with standardized preparations, ideal for practicing specific restorative procedures and crown preparations.
During a 180 day period we suggest starting with 20 of each variation of the preprepared teeth and then purchasing additional teeth individually as you identify areas for improvement in your practice. This provides you the most comprehensive practice.
Some applicants may hypothesize what is coming on the exam and only practice those specific preps. They often commit too heavily to a style of prep which may leave gaps in their practice as the teeth given during the exam change over time.
Staying Equipped
We receive new stock of teeth approximately every 2-3 weeks. Many students find themselves needing additional teeth as exam preparation intensifies. To receive notifications when new inventory arrives, please register for our weekly updates Here.
